A YouTube channel earnings check is reliable only when every number refers to the same channel, period, currency and revenue scope. For your own or an authorized channel, reconcile YouTube Analytics estimated revenue with finalized AdSense for YouTube earnings, payment status, external revenue and operating costs. For someone else's public channel, exact earnings are usually not verifiable.

This guide uses a monthly evidence record. It does not assign an income to a niche, subscriber count, geography or public view total. YouTube states that estimates can change because of adjustments, and finalized earnings are recorded separately.

Separate five different money states

  1. Estimated platform revenue: the current figure in YouTube Analytics for a selected period.
  2. Finalized platform earnings: the previous month's finalized amount in AdSense for YouTube.
  3. Payment status: whether the finalized balance is pending, issued or received.
  4. External revenue: sponsorships, affiliates, products or services that are absent from the YouTube platform total.
  5. Operating result: revenue less the production costs assigned to the same period.

These states answer different questions. An Analytics estimate is not a bank deposit. A payment can be finalized but held below a threshold. A sponsor invoice can be earned but unpaid. A public view count reveals none of these private states.

Define the month and channel before opening reports

Write the scope at the top of the record:

  • channel URL and channel ID;
  • calendar month and time zone;
  • reporting currency;
  • account role or owner authorization;
  • content included, such as videos, Shorts and live streams;
  • capture and export dates.

Use a completed month for reconciliation. Current-month revenue can still be delayed or adjusted. YouTube's current revenue-report guidance says Revenue tab data can take two days to appear and that estimates may change after invalid-traffic, copyright or campaign adjustments.

Capture the YouTube Analytics estimate

In YouTube Studio, open Analytics, select Revenue, set the completed month and record:

  • total estimated revenue;
  • estimated ad revenue;
  • revenue by source, including any memberships, Supers, Shopping or other shown sources;
  • revenue by format for videos, Shorts and live streams;
  • top-earning content;
  • views, RPM and any other metric used in a calculation.

Save the selected dates and currency with the figures. A cropped total without channel identity or date controls is weak evidence. The Revenue tab layout can vary as YouTube updates Studio, so record the labels that are actually shown instead of relying on a memorized interface.

Export a matching report

Use YouTube Analytics Advanced Mode when the decision depends on individual videos, formats or periods. Set the same month, choose the relevant revenue metrics, add a content or format breakdown, and export the current view. Keep the file with the review date.

Compare like with like. Do not combine a 28-day total with a calendar-month payment, a USD export with a converted bank deposit, or Shorts engaged views with standard-video views. If the export is limited or a metric is unavailable, mark the field unavailable rather than zero.

Read RPM, CPM and ad revenue correctly

YouTube's current ad-revenue definitions separate these metrics:

  • RPM is creator revenue per 1,000 views after YouTube's revenue share. It can include several revenue sources reported in Analytics. For Shorts, it uses engaged views.
  • CPM is advertiser spending per 1,000 ad impressions before YouTube's revenue share. It is not the creator's payout rate.
  • Estimated ad revenue isolates ads, while total estimated revenue can include other YouTube revenue sources.
  • Estimated monetized playbacks count playbacks with ads. Not every view has an ad.

For a matching report, revenue cross-check = views divided by 1,000, multiplied by RPM. Use this only to check internal consistency. Rounded RPM, adjustments and scope differences can produce a small difference. The reported revenue total remains the primary estimate.

Reconcile finalized AdSense for YouTube earnings

After the month ends, open the YouTube payments account in AdSense for YouTube. YouTube's current payment-cycle guidance says the previous month is normally finalized between the 7th and 12th. Payment depends on the balance meeting the applicable threshold and on holds or payment-information tasks being resolved by the relevant deadline.

Record the finalized earnings, posting date and visible adjustments. Then calculate:

Finalization difference = finalized earnings minus the Analytics estimate captured for the same month and platform scope.

A difference is not automatically an error. Investigate scope, currency, tax withholding, invalid-traffic adjustments, copyright disputes and the date on which the estimate was captured. Keep both numbers and explain the difference; do not overwrite the original estimate.

Track payment separately from earnings

Add four dates or statuses for the finalized platform amount:

  • finalized in AdSense for YouTube;
  • threshold and account tasks checked;
  • payment issued;
  • money received in the destination account.

YouTube currently describes payments as normally issued between the 21st and 26th when the threshold is met and no hold blocks payment. Transfer time depends on the payment method. A finalized balance therefore belongs in earned revenue before it necessarily belongs in cash received.

Add external revenue without double counting

Create one line for each sponsor, affiliate program, product or service. Record the contract or statement, covered period, currency, gross amount, fees, reversals and one status: earned, approved, issued or received.

Check whether a source is already included in YouTube's platform total before adding it. RPM does not include ordinary off-platform brand deals, consulting or many external sales, but YouTube's revenue products and labels can change. Use the report's actual source breakdown.

Assign costs to the same period

Revenue is not operating profit. Record production costs such as research, writing, voice, editing, thumbnails, licences, software and management. State whether a cost is paid, accrued or allocated. Keep owner compensation, tax, financing and acquisition cost visible as separate exclusions if they are not part of the calculation.

Use three totals:

  • earned revenue: finalized platform earnings plus external amounts earned for the period;
  • cash received: payments that reached the destination account by the review date;
  • operating result: earned revenue minus period costs, before clearly listed exclusions.

Use a reproducible monthly record

For every line, save these fields:

  • source and report location;
  • channel, month, time zone and currency;
  • amount and whether it is estimated, finalized, earned, issued or received;
  • capture date and account role;
  • adjustment or discrepancy note;
  • supporting export, invoice or payment record;
  • reviewer and next action.

Redact tax identifiers, bank details, payment IDs, recovery information and personal documents. For an authorized channel review, use a live walkthrough, an agreed role or redacted exports. Do not request passwords or recovery codes.

Work through a hypothetical reconciliation

Assume a channel's August Analytics estimate was $1,240 when captured on September 4. AdSense for YouTube posted $1,180 on September 10. The $60 decrease is recorded as a finalization difference and investigated from the available adjustment information.

A $500 sponsor placement was earned in August and received on September 12. Another $90 affiliate amount was approved but unpaid at the review date. August production costs were $700.

  • Earned revenue: $1,180 + $500 + $90 = $1,770.
  • Cash received by the review date: include only amounts that have actually arrived. If the platform payment has not arrived, the $1,180 stays outside this total.
  • Operating result: $1,770 - $700 = $1,070 before owner compensation, tax and other listed exclusions.

This example is invented to demonstrate status and arithmetic. It is not a typical result, forecast or customer outcome.

Handle discrepancies before making a decision

Use a short exception log:

  • Different dates: rerun both reports for the same calendar month.
  • Different currencies: keep originals and document any conversion source and date.
  • Estimate exceeds finalization: check capture timing and visible adjustments.
  • Payment is missing: check threshold, holds, payment-information tasks, issue date and payment-method timing.
  • External invoice is unpaid: keep it in earned revenue only when the contract supports that treatment; exclude it from cash received.
  • Screenshot cannot be matched to the channel: mark the evidence inconclusive and request an authorized live view or export.

For a public channel, report what is unknown

Public views, subscriber counts, ads, Join buttons and sponsor disclosures can describe activity. They do not reveal the creator's private RPM, revenue-source mix, adjustments, contracts, costs, AdSense balance or payment status. A public calculator applies assumptions to incomplete data.

If you need a scenario, publish the assumptions beside the arithmetic and label the result hypothetical. Do not turn a broad calculator range into a factual monthly income, narrow it with country or niche stereotypes, or present a public clue as an owner statement.

For YPP and video-level status rather than earnings, use our YouTube monetization evidence guide. For a 100,000-subscriber operating worksheet, use the subscriber income and cost guide. An authorized acquisition review should also follow the channel handover checklist. Apply the same evidence standard to any option in the account catalog.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I see my actual YouTube earnings?

YouTube Analytics shows estimated revenue. AdSense for YouTube shows finalized earnings and payment information. A bank or payment-provider record confirms receipt.

Why is my AdSense amount different from YouTube Analytics?

The estimate can change during finalization, and the two screens may cover different scopes or dates. Match the calendar month, currency and YouTube payments account, then record visible adjustments and tax withholding.

Can I calculate earnings from views and RPM?

You can cross-check a matching Analytics report by multiplying views divided by 1,000 by RPM. Do not apply a public or assumed RPM to another channel and describe the result as verified income.

Does CPM show what the creator was paid?

No. CPM describes advertiser spending before YouTube's revenue share. Creator revenue, ad revenue and payment status require different records.

Can I verify another channel's income from public data?

Usually no. Public data can support an explicitly hypothetical scenario, but it cannot reveal private platform revenue, external agreements, costs, adjustments or payments.

What should a buyer request?

With the owner's authorization, request a dated live walkthrough or redacted exports that match channel identity, period, currency and revenue scope. Verify finalization and payment separately, and do not request passwords, recovery codes or unredacted financial identifiers.
