YouTube account recovery starts by identifying which access problem you have. A forgotten Google password, a disabled Google Account, a hacked channel and a YouTube termination need different routes. Read the exact sign-in or Studio notice before choosing a form.
This guide helps you select that route and prepare a concise case record. For confirmed unauthorized uploads or account changes, use our hacked YouTube account guide for the wider incident-cleanup workflow.
Match the notice to the recovery route
Open Google sign-in and YouTube Studio directly, rather than following an unexpected email link. Check the Google Account normally used to manage the affected channel. Record what each screen says; a public channel disappearing does not by itself identify the cause.
| What you see | Start here |
|---|---|
| Forgotten password, username or unavailable verification method | Google Account recovery |
| Google says the entire account is disabled | Google's disabled-account appeal |
| Changes or uploads you did not authorize | YouTube's hacked-channel guidance and Google security recovery |
| YouTube shows a Community Guidelines termination notice | Termination review in YouTube Studio |
| A particular video has a strike or copyright claim | The specific restriction's review route |
One incident can involve more than one row. For example, a hacked Google Account may be followed by a channel termination. That needs an ordered recovery, rather than treating the termination form as a password-reset tool.
Route 1: You cannot sign in to Google
For forgotten credentials or verification trouble, begin with Google's account-recovery instructions. Follow the recovery flow linked there for the account that managed the channel. If you use a work or school account, ask its administrator about the applicable process.
Google's recovery tips recommend a familiar device, browser and location. Answer the questions as well as you can. If asked for an earlier password, provide the most recent one you remember. Google permits a best guess when you are unsure.
Keep private account details in the official flow. Google says to enter passwords and verification codes only at accounts.google.com, and warns that it does not work with services claiming to offer password-recovery support. Paying a stranger does not establish channel ownership.
Route 2: Google says the account is disabled
A disabled Google Account is a different issue from a forgotten password or a channel-only restriction. Follow Google's disabled-account instructions: sign in using a browser, read the explanation and select Start Appeal when offered. Respond to the stated reason.
Save the notice and submission confirmation. For some policy violations, Google reviews up to two appeals and displays the applicable limit before submission. Use any permitted follow-up to add relevant information. A generic YouTube form cannot substitute for this Google Account decision.
Route 3: You find unauthorized channel changes
Use YouTube's hacked-channel help page, including its hacked-channel assistant when available. YouTube requires recovery of the associated hacked Google Account before recovery of the channel. If you can still sign in, secure that Google Account; if you cannot, follow its recovery flow.
For a termination following a hack, recover the Google Account before using the hacked-channel appeal instructions. Eligible creators who have recovered their Google Account can contact Creator Support; the help page also directs creators who cannot reach that team to @TeamYouTube on X. These are support routes, not promises of restoration.
Then continue with the existing channel-compromise checklist. Keep this routing record alongside the incident evidence.
Route 4: YouTube shows an enforcement notice
For a Community Guidelines termination, follow YouTube's termination instructions. On a computer, the current Studio route starts with Begin Review beneath the termination information, then Start Appeal. The official page provides a fallback form when that route cannot be used.
Current guidance allows up to one year from termination and two appeals within that year, with a limit on appeals for a single termination. Check the displayed instructions and status in Studio. Do not create or acquire another channel to bypass termination; YouTube's prohibition covers those channels too.
A strike on one video follows the Community Guidelines strike appeal route. Warnings and strikes have a six-month appeal window. Deleting the video does not remove the strike and can prevent another appeal.
Copyright uses separate processes. A Content ID claim is distinct from a copyright removal request; removal can produce a copyright strike. Read the specific notice and its official options before making any declaration. A copyright complaint form is not a general channel-recovery form.
Build a route record before you submit
Use a private note with these six fields:
- Notice: Exact wording and where it appeared.
- Identity: Affected channel URL and managing Google Account.
- Timeline: First observed change, including time zone.
- Route: Official help page and the action selected.
- Evidence: Relevant alerts or affected-content details.
- Status: Submission date, case reference and requested next step.
Example: An editor can open Gmail, but Studio shows a termination notice. Record that Google sign-in works, copy the reason and use the termination review route. If the notice follows unauthorized uploads, also record the compromise and complete the hacked-account sequence. These are hypothetical routing examples, not customer recovery results.
If only one teammate lost access while the owner still has control, review channel permissions versus Brand Account ownership before classifying it as a whole-channel lockout.
Update the same record when support asks for information. Access returning, an appeal being accepted and monetization eligibility are separate outcomes. Keep unresolved decisions visible; there is no universal recovery timetable.
